On Saturday 26th, from 9.30am to 3.30pm, a double-decker Battle Bus will be driving round south London, visiting Crystal Palace, Streatham, Clapham, Vauxhall, Brixton, Elephant and everywhere in between. Decorated with posters and balloons from the striking unions, the bus will deliver leaflets and strike materials to local reps at each point for handing out to the public. The bus will be followed by a car fitted with a PA for loudspeaker announcements.

On the mornings of 25th, 28th and 29th, there will be a cavalcade driving round Brixton town centre at rush hour with a sound system to address the public on the pensions dispute and invite them to Windrush Square on 30th.

On the day itself, there will be a Strike Festival in Windrush Square from 10.45am with each union putting up its own tent, plus a sound system, a speakers’ rally and free tea and coffee for strikers. Activists and reps will be working together from the square throughout the morning, to direct pickets to where they are most needed. A short joint statement will be read out at the rally to be voted on, which congratulates the strikers and calls for further, longer, united strike action in January. The assembly will then travel to the central London event at Lincoln’s Inns Fields.

The march will then visit all the major pickets towards New Cross before arriving at GOLDSMITHS COLLEGE.

On November 30th, as many as 3 million people will take strike action over the government’s plans to slash their pensions. Workers from 20 unions will be participating in the one day action, which will see pickets at hospitals, universities, schools and a wide range of public services.

The cuts are but one small part of the government’s wider austerity plan, signalling disaster for the whole working class, young and old alike. Students, the elderly, disabled and benefit claimants stand to lose out while rents are rising almost twice as quickly as wages.

It is only by standing together in the face of the government’s attacks that we can defeat them. Workers in the public sector have only preserved their pensions at a higher rate than those in the private sector (up to now at least) because of their willingness to defend them. If they manage to drag down working conditions in the public sector, then soon they’ll take aim at your job too!

South London Solidarity Federation wish to support the strikers on N30, but not just with empty words but with concrete actions. We want to bring succour, high spirits, hot tea, food and whatever else to the pickets that will be in operation from dawn on N30, that they may continue to struggle and strike against the goverment’s savagery.

To this end, we call on all South Londoners to set their alarms, dust off their Thermoses, butter their sandwiches and come to the following:
